Jerry on the Job

A daily newspaper strip following Jerry, a young office boy navigating workplace mishaps and schemes. Here, Jerry encounters Uncle Tom's cab and becomes entangled in a plot involving an automobile and dubious promises of profit. The strip employs the visual vocabulary standard to 1920s comics: sequential rectangular panels, speech balloons advancing plot and gags, exaggerated character expressions, and running characters reappearing across episodes. Such strips populated the comics pages of American newspapers, establishing the panel-based narrative structure and recurring-character format that became foundational to the emerging comic book industry.
