Buddie and His Friends
Robert L. Dickey's Sunday strip follows Buddie, an anthropomorphic dog, and his canine companions through domestic situations and wordplay. Here, Buddie's friend returns from Florida with Bucky Kelly, a new arrival whose education has transformed him—a premise that unfolds across four panels with escalating visual comedy. The strip employs the standard newspaper format: sequential panels, speech balloons, and recurring characters that became the foundation of comic strip storytelling. Dickey's loose, energetic line work typified the period's Sunday page aesthetic, where slapstick humor and animal characters dominated American comic strips during the 1920s.
