Uncle Happy and the Katzenjammers Celebrate unfolds across nine panels of controlled chaos: the twins Hans and Fritz hide a garden hose inside a Christmas tree, soaking their mother and the household; a fake Santa (unmasked as Uncle Happy) arrives bearing gifts; the boys escalate the mayhem with fireworks and a fire extinguisher until a policeman intervenes and sentences them to school. Rudolph Dirks drew the *Katzenjammer Kids* for the Hearst papers beginning in 1897, adapting Wilhelm Busch's *Max und Moritz* into the recurring-cast Sunday page format — sequential panels, integrated speech balloons, and slapstick consequence — that would directly seed the comic-book form a generation later.
