Life on the Radio Wave by Pinto
Pinto's Sunday comic employs the visual conventions that shaped early newspaper strips: multiple panels, speech balloons, and slapstick action. A radio operator warns of sabotage while his "grow" wire gets busted, sending him sprawling amid transmitter components and tangled cables. The strip mines comedy from the era's fascination with wireless technology and the chaos of early broadcast stations. Radio comics flourished in the 1920s as the medium itself captured public imagination. Pinto uses sharp linework and exaggerated poses to build physical gags across the page—techniques inherited from vaudeville and perfected in the dailies and Sunday supplements that preceded the modern comic book.
