Lord Longbow—He Uses Flypaper in Hunting
This four-panel strip follows Lord Longbow's comic misadventure with flypaper as a hunting tool. The narrative unfolds across panels: Longbow proposes using flypaper to catch game; beasts attempt to eat the sticky paper placed on tree stumps; the hunter must retrieve the paper-covered animals; the final panel shows the chaotic results. The strip exemplifies early newspaper comic conventions: sequential panels advancing a single gag, speech balloons carrying character dialogue, and an recurring protagonist navigating absurd situations. Such strips populated Sunday comics pages and dailies in the early 1900s, establishing the visual language—panel borders, word balloons, action sequencing—that became foundational to comic art.
