Makin' B'lieve by Dwiggins

A Sunday strip following the comic misadventures of Flossy and the Dorgans. Here, Flossy's mother-in-law arrives for a visit, prompting the family to stage an elaborate charade of domestic contentment—only to have the rocking chair literally explode when she sits down. The strip demonstrates the visual vocabulary of early newspaper comics: multiple panels advancing narrative action, speech balloons carrying dialogue and internal commentary, and exaggerated character expressions and physical comedy. Dwiggins employs slapstick timing and situational humor typical of the Sunday pages that preceded and shaped the comic book format.
