Mamma's Angel Child Doesn't Like Molly Coddles
This Sunday strip follows a mischievous child through six sequential panels, using speech balloons and varied compositions to track the protagonist's pranks and comeuppance. The child steals her brother's clothes, torments other children, and ultimately faces discipline from her mother. The artist employs consistent character design, energetic line work, and slapstick physical comedy—hallmarks of early newspaper comics. Published during the medium's formative decade, such strips established visual conventions that would define comics: panel borders that guide narrative flow, dialogue integrated with action, and recurring characters whose personalities drive humor. Newspaper comics of this era served as laboratories for the sequential art techniques and storytelling formats that would later structure the comic book.
