Millie and Her Millions
This Sunday strip follows Millie, a wealthy young woman navigating social courtship and romantic complications. The narrative unfolds across nine panels, each bordered and sequenced to guide reader attention left to right. Characters converse through speech balloons while seated in parlor settings; the final panel shifts to slapstick action as a suitor is literally ejected from the house. The strip's visual economy—simple line work, repeated character types, clear panel progression—represents the newspaper comic's formal vocabulary as it emerged in early twentieth-century dailies and Sunday supplements. These serialized strips, drawn by staff artists for mass circulation, established conventions that would define comic books: sequential panels, recurring protagonists, and dialogue integrated with illustration.
