Modish Mitzi
· September 26, 1925

A Sunday newspaper strip following the social misadventures of Mitzi, a young woman navigating modern urban life. This strip exemplifies the visual conventions that emerged in 1920s comics: multiple panels arranged left-to-right, speech balloons advancing plot and character voice, and sequential art showing cause and effect across frames. The strip's fashion-focused humor and contemporary setting reflected the lifestyle interests of newspaper comics readers. Such Sunday pages and their daily counterparts formed the commercial and artistic foundation from which the comic book format would eventually develop, establishing the panel-based grammar and character-driven serialization that defined the medium.
