A Martian visitor arrives on Earth as a newspaper correspondent, recording observations in his notebook. Here he documents confused earthlings—lost and arguing over their location—who show their teeth and bark furiously at one another. The strip's alien-observer premise allowed cartoonists to comment on human behavior through estrangement. Published in the Sunday newspaper pages, *Mr. Skygack* exemplified early comic strip design: sequential panels, speech balloons, recurring character, and visual gags. The format—developed by artists working in dailies and Sunday supplements—established the visual language that would define comic books.
