Mr. Wad Was Just Looking for Information—and He Got It!!!
· March 14, 1911

This Sunday comic strip demonstrates the visual conventions that shaped early newspaper comics. Multiple panels advance a single gag through sequential art: a man seeking simple directions gets wildly misdirected, culminating in physical chaos. Speech balloons carry dialogue and thought, while varied panel sizes and angles track action and reaction. The strip's economy of line and kinetic drawing style—common to early 1910s newspaper pages—influenced the visual grammar that would define comic books. Sunday strips like this were popular features that drove newspaper circulation and established the formal vocabulary of comics: recurring characters, sight gags, panel flow, and the interplay of text and image that became foundational to the medium.
