Mr. Wad Is Adamant, All Right—But It's His Head That's Adamant!
This Sunday strip follows Mr. Wad through five sequential panels as he describes his morning routine of removing various items of clothing—each reference punctuated by frustrated repetition of the word "adamant." When a companion suggests the adamantine quality belongs not to his resolve but to his skull, physical comedy erupts across the final panels. The strip employs the visual conventions of early newspaper comics: distinct panel borders, speech balloons capturing dialect and emotional intensity, and a recurring character whose exaggerated expressions and body language carry the narrative. The strip exemplifies the Sunday page format that established comics as a distinct medium, where sequential art and typography combined to create humor through both dialogue and visual gag.
