Mr. Titus Wad Didn't Know That Losing Golf Balls Is Part of the Game!
· March 2, 1913

This Sunday comic strip follows the misadventures of Mr. Titus Wad, a hapless golfer whose round goes comically awry. The six-panel sequence traces Wad's escalating frustrations—from a caddy's mild warning about lost balls to his frantic search and final resignation. The strip employs the visual conventions that defined early newspaper comics: sequential panels with speech balloons, expressive caricature, and escalating physical comedy. By 1913, such strips appeared weekly in Sunday papers, establishing the narrative and stylistic templates that would become foundational to comic books. The artist uses exaggeration and slapstick to mine humor from a relatable leisure activity, while the recurring character of Wad allowed readers to follow his misfortunes across installments.
