Doc Is Lost in the Mystic Maze of Yuletide
· December 26, 1913

This Sunday strip by Arnot follows a hapless character through six sequential panels as he navigates holiday confusion. The gag escalates from a writer buried in correspondence to a friend offering dubious advice about Christmas shopping, culminating in the protagonist's frantic search for gifts amid urban chaos. The strip employs the visual vocabulary that emerged from early newspaper comics: distinct panel borders, speech balloons, exaggerated expressions, and a protagonist caught in mounting comic predicaments. Such strips appeared weekly in newspapers nationwide, establishing the narrative and visual conventions that would define comic books as a medium. The rapid-fire sight gags and slapstick pacing reflect the humor sensibility of early-twentieth-century newspaper entertainment.
