Old Doc Yak

This Sunday strip follows Doc Yak, a recurring character navigating mishaps and chance encounters. The narrative unfolds across six panels using word balloons and sequential action—visual conventions pioneered in newspaper comics of the early 1900s. Yak discovers a horse's shoe, then pursues increasingly absurd schemes involving a milk wagon and coal delivery, each panel advancing the gag through sight lines and physical comedy. The densely inked, expressionistic drawing style captures motion and confusion through hatching and exaggerated forms. By 1912, newspaper comic strips had established themselves as daily reading, their panel structure and character repetition forming the foundation of what would become the comic book medium.
