Old Doc Yak

Old Doc Yak, a comic strip character created by cartoonist Sidney Smith, appeared regularly in newspapers during the 1910s. The strip followed the misadventures of its titular goat protagonist through single-panel and multi-panel sequences, employing the visual conventions that defined early newspaper comics: speech balloons, sequential panels, and recurring characters in humorous situations. Doc Yak's popularity led to theatrical adaptations and promotional events, including the 1915 minstrel show advertised here by the Chicago Automobile Club.
