A single-strip newspaper comic featuring the character Everett True in a motorcar with a companion. The humor turns on True's absurdist response to a mechanical problem—the other figure admires the new machine while True launches into an exasperated tirade about inferior engineering and lawmaking. The strip employs the visual conventions that defined early comics: sequential panels, speech balloons advancing narrative and gag, and caricature figures rendered in bold ink line. By the early 1900s, newspaper comic strips had become the primary laboratory for developing the visual grammar later adopted by comic books. Artists working in dailies and Sunday pages established panel composition, word-image relationship, and character consistency—techniques that would structure comics for decades.
