Outbursts of Everett True

A two-panel gag strip featuring the irascible Everett True. In the first panel, True shares a crowded streetcar; a passenger politely requests he move over. In the second, True responds by violently attacking the man, explaining he once killed hogs for a living. The strip exemplifies the visual language newspapers pioneered: sequential panels, speech balloons, and recurring character types. Everett True strips ran for decades in Sunday comics sections, establishing the fractious everyman as a stock character. The strip's economy of line and exaggerated action became foundational to comic strip cartooning.
