Outbursts of Everett True
This daily strip follows Everett True, a volatile character whose exaggerated reactions to minor social annoyances drive the humor. Here, True's friend attempts to share an anecdote while True, barely containing his impatience, finally explodes with demands for silence. The strip employs the visual vocabulary pioneered in early newspaper comics: sequential panels, expressive facial caricature, and speech balloons to convey both dialogue and internal state. The artist's bold line work and dynamic body language communicate True's barely restrained fury through posture and gesture alone. Running in newspapers from 1905 onward, *Everett True* exemplified how the comics page could use recurring characters and escalating gags to build reader investment in predictable yet satisfying comedic outcomes.
