Radio Ralf depicts a radio operator at his microphone performing various entertainments—music, songs, news reports, and comedy bits—for unseen listeners. Each panel labels a different broadcast segment: "Let's Go!", "Adjustin'", "Combing Cat Whiskers", "Well, Come On!", and "Bear Story!" The strip captures the novelty of radio broadcasting in the early 1920s, when live entertainment transmitted through the airwaves was still a marvel. Jack Wilson's comic employs the fundamental grammar of newspaper comics: sequential panels, speech balloons, and a recurring character in familiar scenarios.
