Salesman Sam

A six-panel daily strip following Sam, a traveling salesman navigating mishaps on the road. Each panel advances the narrative through dialogue and physical comedy: Sam complains about his tired feet, a customer dismisses his wares, business stalls, and by strip's end Sam finds himself in an absurd predicament involving animals and chaos. The strip employs the visual conventions established in 1920s newspaper comics—multiple panels in sequence, speech balloons advancing plot, exaggerated character expressions, and recurring protagonists. Such dailies formed the bedrock of American comic publishing, developing the grammar of sequential art that would define the medium for decades.
