Seein' Stars

Feg Murray's *Seein' Stars* offered Hollywood gossip and celebrity trivia in comic-strip form, a format that merged newspaper cartooning with fan culture. The strip featured caricatured portraits of film actors—here Jimmy Durante, Bettie Davis, Gary Cooper, and Mickey Mouse—alongside topical gags and registered trademark jokes. Murray employed the visual conventions emerging from early comic strips: exaggerated physiognomy, speech balloons, inset vignettes, and recurring characters. The layout mixed portraiture with narrative panels, reflecting how Sunday newspaper comics became a primary vehicle for celebrity commentary and popular culture commentary before the rise of dedicated comic books.
