Four panels follow Soosie, a sharp-dressed woman at a soda fountain, as she talks the counter man into extra syrup in her drink, then extra soda, then reveals she has engineered two free refills by leaving her companion Oswald's glass unfinished — a small con executed with perfect composure. The strip runs on tight dialogue and a single recurring gag escalating across panels, the visual grammar already confident: speech balloons anchoring rhythm, figures in sharp silhouette against sparse backgrounds. Signed Forbell & Floherty, *Soosie* belongs to the daily newspaper strip lineage — Outcault, McManus, Dirks — whose syndicated pages, bound and sold as premiums in the late 1920s and early 1930s, became the first comic books.
