Soosie the Shopper

Four panels follow Soosie and her companion "Daddykins" through a millinery session: he asks whether a hat is divine, she tries on successive styles while a saleswoman poses in the background, and the strip's punchline arrives when Daddykins exclaims "WOW!" — then explains he merely needs his glasses changed. The draftsmanship is clean pen-and-ink daily-strip work: hatched shadows, dotted-fabric patterns, speech balloons threading across panels with dashed sight-lines. Signed by Forbell & Floherty, the strip belongs to the early 1920s newspaper daily tradition — that dense grid of syndicated strips whose recurring characters, sequential panels, and integrated dialogue balloons directly supplied the raw material that anthology publishers would soon bind into the first comic books.
