The Teasers: Bobby Misses His Guess All Right
· 1905

A six-panel Sunday strip following Bobby and his young companions through a winter day. The narrative progresses from Bobby's confident boast about guessing a riddle, through escalating physical comedy—snowball strikes, tumbles, and mishaps—to his humiliation when the answer is revealed. The strip employs sequential panel layout with speech balloons to establish character motivation and timing, hallmarks of early newspaper comics. Characters recur across panels, creating continuity within a single story. Pen-and-ink linework renders both architecture and action with economy, typical of the dailies and Sunday pages that established comic art as a distinct medium separate from single-panel illustration.
