The Teasers—Bobby Learns His Little Book
· May 27, 1906

This Sunday strip follows Bobby and his friends as they torment a classmate by hiding his schoolbooks. The narrative unfolds across eight panels, using sequential art to build comic tension: Bobby stashes books in a trash can, his mother scolds him, he retrieves them, and eventually the victim discovers the prank. The strip demonstrates early newspaper comic conventions—speech balloons, varied panel sizes, recurring child characters—that became foundational to the medium. Published in the Sunday funnies when comic strips were establishing themselves as a distinct form between newspaper illustration and emerging comic books, "The Teasers" captures the humor formula of mischievous children that dominated early-twentieth-century comics.
