Uncle Mun

This Sunday page follows Uncle Mun and his goats through a series of rural misadventures. The artist uses line work and figure drawing descended directly from nineteenth-century illustration, while the panel-to-panel narrative sequencing—closeups of character reactions, wider shots of action—establishes sight gags and comedic timing through layout alone. Such Sunday pages, appearing in newspapers nationwide, formed the commercial and artistic foundation from which comic books would eventually develop.
