Howard R. Garis's *Uncle Wiggily* follows a rabbit gentleman through slapstick woodland mishaps across nine panels. Illustrated by Lang Campbell, the strip chains dialogue balloons and sequential action into a narrative arc: Uncle Wiggily plans a forest party; animals squabble over food; the Fox and Wolf disrupt the gathering; chaos erupts; order returns. The visual grammar—rectangular panels, speech bubbles anchored to speakers, recurring cast—became standard in Sunday newspaper comics. Such strips, syndicated nationally from 1910 onward, demonstrated how serialized characters and panel-based storytelling could sustain reader interest across years, establishing the formal foundation comic books would inherit.
