George McManus's *Bringing Up Father* runs here as a single-tier Sunday strip across eight panels. Jiggs — stout, formally dressed, forever aspirational — works a golf club while a series of well-heeled bystanders comment on his athletic pretensions; speech balloons carry the rapid-fire back-and-forth that McManus made his signature. The drawing is clean pen-and-ink: exaggerated silhouettes, expressive posture, minimal backgrounds. Launched in 1913 for the Hearst syndicate, the strip joined *Mutt and Jeff*, *Krazy Kat*, and *Little Nemo* in establishing the Sunday page as the laboratory where American visual storytelling found its grammar — recurring characters, sequential panels, integrated dialogue — the direct ancestor of the comic book form.
