This Sunday comic page features two strips: 'Jimmy—He Goes for Kerosene Oil!' and 'Foxy Grandpa—He Shows the Boys How Water Can Be Made to Flow One Way as Well as Another.' The Foxy Grandpa strip demonstrates the visual language emerging in early newspaper comics: sequential panels with speech balloons advancing a narrative joke, recurring characters (the scheming grandpa and his grandsons), and escalating physical gags. The strip's layout—multiple tiers moving left to right—became standard in Sunday comics. By 1904, newspaper comic strips had evolved from single-panel jokes into serialized stories that built reader loyalty and drove circulation, establishing the formal vocabulary that would define comic books.
