Below, *Jimmy — His Father Makes a Hit!* runs a full parade sequence: a strutting father commandeers a children's street band and leads an escalating procession past a figure hailed as "Mister the President." Frederick Opper, the signed artist, had refined this visual shorthand in *Puck* before migrating to Hearst's Sunday pages, where recurring characters and sequential panels were actively inventing the grammar every later comic book would inherit.
