This newspaper page does not reproduce the *Mutt and Jeff* strip itself but advertises it as the headline attraction at the Brandeis Theater in Omaha — "The Great Big Musical Show" adapted from Bud Fisher's enormously popular daily comic strip. Fisher launched *Mutt and Jeff* in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1907, making it the first successful continuous daily newspaper strip and a direct ancestor of the comic book format. The lanky, scheming Mutt and his tiny, bowler-hatted partner Jeff established the recurring-character duo and sequential daily gag structure that syndicates would carry into the collected reprint pamphlets of the 1930s — the comic book's literal origin.
