Jimmy—He Smokes the Pipe of Peace
A Sunday newspaper comic strip featuring Jimmy, a child character navigating a sequence of escalating situations with various adult figures and animals. The strip employs the visual conventions that defined early comic storytelling: sequential panels arranged in a grid, speech balloons carrying dialogue and thought, and recurring character types. Published in the Omaha Sunday Bee, this strip exemplifies how American newspapers distributed sequential narrative art to mass audiences in the early twentieth century. The Sunday comics section—a major newspaper feature—provided the formal and commercial foundation for the comic book medium that would emerge in the 1930s.
