Architectural Sketch
Frederic Edwin Church, American, 1826–1900 · July 15th
A spare pen sketch depicting a modernist structure in profile, with a distinctive angled support on the left and a long horizontal mass punctuated by small rectangular openings. The hand-drawn notation at bottom suggests this preliminary study documents a specific design concept or spatial idea. Such working sketches were essential to early architectural practice, allowing designers to rapidly explore forms and proportions before committing to finished drawings or construction.
