French designer Gilles-Marie Oppenord presents two elaborate fireplace andirons in the Rococo style. Each ornamental support features a lidded urn crowning a scrolled pedestal base, decorated with acanthus leaves, shell motifs, and figural elements. Ring handles hang from the upper vessels. Oppenord's designs exemplify the ornamental vocabulary that dominated French interior decoration during the reign of Louis XV—curves, naturalistic forms, and symmetrical composition. These engravings served as models for metalworkers and craftsmen, circulating design ideas across Europe through pattern books and illustrated folios.
