Architectural Elevations: Portes Cochères et Églises

Two neoclassical facade designs by Daniel Marot, the influential French architect and ornamental designer. The left elevation shows a carriage entrance (porte cochère) with rusticated columns and a fanlight above double doors; the right presents an ecclesiastical facade with Corinthian pilasters and a central portal. Marot's designs, disseminated through printed engravings across Europe, established enduring standards for aristocratic and religious architecture during the late Baroque period. His measured architectural vocabulary—clear proportions, restrained ornament, hierarchical composition—defined taste in France, the Netherlands, and England throughout the early eighteenth century.
