Architectural Doorway Designs

These precision engravings depict two distinct entrance compositions in the classical manner. At left, a recessed cylindrical vestibule frames paired doors beneath a fanlight and ornamental arch, crowned by a balustrade. At right, a flat façade presents doubled doors with radiating fanlight and pediment, flanked by engaged columns. Both designs employ rustication, pilasters, and decorative metalwork typical of French and English neoclassical architecture. Such pattern-book illustrations served builders and architects as working references, establishing proportional systems and ornamental vocabularies for domestic and public structures. The meticulous cross-hatching demonstrates the engraver's technical control in rendering shadow and dimensional form.
