This French playing card depicts Julius Caesar as a classical hero in Roman military dress, holding a scroll inscribed "Commentaires" (Commentaries). Part of a "Cartes héroïques" deck, it belongs to a 19th-century tradition of educational card games that presented historical and legendary figures to popular audiences.
