The composition centers on a massive tree anchoring the composition, with yellow-roofed merchant stalls flanking either side. Travelers—some on foot, others with pack animals—move through the street in everyday commerce and passage. Mountains recede in the background beneath a pale sky. The print demonstrates Hiroshige's mastery of perspective, spatial depth, and atmospheric color gradation.
