Hiroshige's composition uses traditional ukiyo-e perspective and color gradations—the characteristic blue sky fading to warm tones at the horizon—to organize the busy marketplace. This print belongs to his series *One Hundred Views of Edo*, which documented the city's neighborhoods, seasonal activities, and commercial life during the final decades of Japan's shogunate period.
