Plum Garden, Kamata (Kamata no Umezono)

Hiroshige's woodblock print depicts a spring landscape centered on blooming plum trees with delicate pink flowers. The composition uses atmospheric perspective to draw the eye from foreground vegetation through middle-ground buildings and figures toward a distant water's edge under a warm, gradated sky. Dark tree trunks provide structural contrast against the pale blossoms and colored ground. A small inset cartouche in the upper right identifies the location within Edo.
