William Trost Richards, American landscape painter (1833–1905), produced this detailed ink study of leaves and a bee visiting flowering plants. The drawing demonstrates the naturalistic precision that characterized mid-nineteenth-century American art, where close observation of botanical detail served both scientific and aesthetic purposes.
