Ernest Thompson Seton, Illustration

Ernest Thompson Seton (1860–1946) was a naturalist and illustrator whose detailed wildlife drawings appeared in newspapers and magazines during the 1890s. This black-and-white illustration depicts a young bird in tall grass, rendered with precise observation of feathers and natural habitat. Seton's work helped establish a visual vocabulary for nature illustration in periodical publishing. His drawings combined scientific accuracy with dramatic composition, influencing both commercial illustration and the developing visual narratives of the era's newspaper pages. Seton later became known for founding the Woodcraft Indians movement and publishing extensively on wildlife subjects.
