Six of Diamonds Playing Card

This Six of Diamonds from a Napoleon III–era deck exemplifies mid-nineteenth-century French card manufacturing. B.P. Grimaud of Paris, a leading producer of playing cards, created standardized designs for the imperial market. The card features the characteristic symmetrical layout of pip cards: six diamond pips arranged in balanced positions across the face, printed in bold red on cream stock. Grimaud's cards reflected both practical functionality and the refined commercial printing standards of Second Empire France, when Parisian card makers dominated European markets.
