Fly-Fishing for Black Bass

This chromolithograph depicts a fly fisherman standing in a river, rod raised as a black bass breaks the surface. One of fifteen prints in the 1889–1890 folio *Sport or Fishing and Shooting*, published by Bradlee Whidden of Boston, the image exemplifies late-nineteenth-century sporting illustration. Based on commissioned watercolors by prominent American artists, these folios combined technical instruction with aesthetic refinement, serving both practical and decorative purposes in the leisure culture of the period.
