The Minute Man Monument
Ernest C. Peixotto's architectural rendering depicts a proposed monument to the American Minutemen of the Revolutionary War. The figure stands alert on a classical pedestal, rifle in hand, embodying the ideal of the citizen-soldier ready for immediate action. Peixotto, a San Francisco-born illustrator and architect (1869–1940), created this design during the 1890s, when public monuments and civic sculpture dominated American artistic commissions. The work demonstrates the period's neoclassical vocabulary and its celebration of Revolutionary mythology through monumental form.
