Mrs. J.B. Harriman and Mrs. C.D. Gibson at Women's Fusion League Rally, c. 1913

This press photograph, annotated in a period hand with both women's names, shows Florence Jaffray "Daisy" Harriman (left, large feathered hat) and Irene Langhorne Gibson — wife of *Life* cartoonist Charles Dana Gibson and the original model for his iconic "Gibson Girl" — canvassing in New York City. Both carry campaign literature; a banner for the Women's Fusion League for Good Government fills the background, linking the image to the fusion mayoralty campaign that elected John Purroy Mitchel in November 1913. A smaller placard visible at left reads "Candidate for Coroner, Borough of Manhattan." The photograph is a rare document of the Gibson Girl stepping off the illustrated page and into street-level civic organizing.
