This document is a Project 10073 UFO report form, dated January 16, 1959, recording an observation near Deadwood and Mt. Coolidge, South Dakota. Two observers—a 25-year-old forest ranger and a 49-year-old lookout, both stationed at Custer State Park—witnessed a single object during night conditions. The sighting lasted fifteen minutes, beginning at 1738 MST. Observers viewed the object with binoculars; it appeared baseball-sized, flickering like a flare, traveling westward at fifteen degrees above the horizon. The object exhibited minimal positional variation during observation. The concluding analysis identifies the sighting as the first-magnitude star Fomalhaut, with cloud movement creating an illusion of motion. The document includes military routing information distributed to multiple Air Force intelligence commands.
