Amazing Stories, March 1960

This document comprises official U.S. Air Force investigation records and civilian UFO research materials concerning a sighting near Dubuque, Iowa on March 4, 1960. Charles Morris, a commercial pilot with 5,000 flight hours, filmed moving-picture color footage of three luminous, disc-shaped objects traveling northeast at approximately 200 mph at roughly 20,000 feet altitude. Morris described them as sharply outlined, constant brightness, elliptical, and approximately 200 feet long. His wife and other witnesses provided corroborating reports with minor variations. The Civilian UFO Research (CUFOR) investigation, conducted over four months with multiple primary witnesses interviewed, concluded the objects were likely Strategic Air Command aircraft based on subsequent SAC correspondence, though CUFOR acknowledged the possibility of unidentified objects. Competing witness accounts attributed the sighting to conventional aircraft (Convair 880s, Boeing 707s, or DC-8s), citing observed contrails and tail configurations visible through binoculars. The Air Force's formal evaluation remained inconclusive despite extensive inquiries to airfields and manufacturers.
