The Young Rough Riders on the Trail *The Young Rough Riders Weekly*, October 29, 1904, No. 28. By Ned Taylor. Two boys flee westward across the prairie from Crook City. The dark-haired one, Ted Strong, reveals to his pale companion—the fugitive Hendricks (posing as Ashford)—that his identity is known. Hendricks, with accomplice Earl Rossiter, stole gold dust, burned the rough riders' stamp mill, and interfered with Ted's relationship. Rossiter had orchestrated these crimes and now escorts Hendricks toward Sunset Ranch, threatening to suppress him if caught since Hendricks might confess Rossiter's involvement. The narrative shifts to Ted Strong's pursuit: deputy sheriff Wayburn, Kit Summers, Bud Morgan, and others track Hendricks by footprints across rain-softened ground. Bud discovers evidence at an abandoned dugout—a silk handkerchief—confirming Hendricks' recent passage toward Sunset Ranch.
